Assist the Director of Christian Formation in…

  • …the cultivation of a chapel program that elevates the spiritual formation of students and faculty/staff

  • …overseeing worship teams and scheduling chapel speakers

  • …facilitating ongoing assessments and focus groups to gain valuable insight into spiritual transformation

Design and execute a predetermined number of chapel breakouts every semester.

As mentioned in more than one place, I’ve been in the ‘events’ business a long time. I define this as ‘something that happens at a particular time and place for a particular purpose.’ Is that a church service, chapel service, concert, or a series of such events?

Not only have I done that professionally as a trainer and speaker myself (my secular CV here), I currently serve as a fractional executive (Head of Strategy) for a virtual event production company. It’s a transferrable skill.

But perhaps more importantly, I’ve served Jesus in similar capacities, too:

  • led worship and served on worship teams for years (great leader, lousy singer!)

  • preached and taught at services and chapels (better teacher than preacher, for sure)

  • led countless small groups, particularly mentoring men and younger people

So whether on the planning/design/booking side of the equation, or the teaching/mentoring/delivering side of the equation, creating connection between an group of people to God, content, and each other is my life. Doesn’t mean I’m great at it…just means I’ve got the experience doing it.

What’s the underlying philosophy of ministry here? You’ve got to execute tactically against a vision and strategic plan — that’s being a good steward. But the point isn’t programs, it’s encountering Jesus, falling more in love with Him, and reaching out in His name. It’s growth of persons, not programs.

IMPORTANTLY…

This doesn’t mean you don’t develop systems and processes that shepherd and mobilize to increase involvement. And I trust you’ll discover, architecting is a strength — designing a learning program, designing an onboarding and development process, designing a series of communications in support of a growth plan, etc.

Speak in engagements on and off campus when necessary

I made my living for years as a professional speaker, securing the highest earned award from National Speakers Association, the Certified Speaking Professional designation.

Manage an assigned budget.

I’ve started more than one company, including one where we received two million of angel funding. I can manage a budget.

Participate in collaborative meetings, outings, and devotionals for the Christian Formation team | Serve in the Summer Institute | Attend student extracurricular activities (athletics, performing arts, etc.).

How do you lead if you are not in community? I don’t know, honestly. I’m a certified John Maxwell Team leadership coach, but perhaps more importantly the challenge is attitudinal. It’s why I think relationally in terms of “5000 coffees.”

Research, build, and develop new partnerships and generate interest in the local and greater community through relationship-building and off-campus speaking/worship-leading events. | Nurture preexisting partnerships and generate interest in the local and greater community through relationship-building and off-campus speaking/worship-leading events.

Partnerships are inherently relationships, right? I’m literally doing my doctoral work on relational spirituality.

Importantly, see the previous response about 5000 coffees. Pursuit of mutual flourishing is wired into my very being.

Develop student leadership teams that participate in recruitment opportunities.

I love this. Unless I’m missing something, this appears to be a form of disciple-making, no? We are equipping and exhorting student leadership in a way that may be event-based, but I imagine also to think that ‘as they are going, make disciples (find new recruits).’

Generate related marketing strategies.

As you’ll see on my secular CV, I’ve been a professional marketer in the corporate world, and my current (part time/fractional) role is as Head of Strategy. Generating marketing strategies (and tactics) is a place I trust I’ll bring some strength.
